[MathDiss Database]

The MathDiss database is an Internet-based access to Mathematical dissertations, provided by the Göttingen State and University Library in Germany.

This database is based on the MathDiss International project, realized jointly by the (then) Gerhard Mercator-Universität, Duisburg, now Universität Duisburg-Essen and the Göttingen State and University Library in Germany. The project was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Council).
The MathDiss database has been redesigned to collect metadata of mathematical dissertations from European countries, using the OAI Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). See the list of contributing collections.
If you want a collection of mathematical dissertations to be included in this portal, please contact Thomas Fischer.
Due to different metadata systems and standards used by the different providers, this collection cannot be completely homogeneous. We try to extract as much detail as possible out of the data delivered but cannot provide additional information. In particular, classification according to may be sparse and will not cover the whole collection. Thus using the search interface might might be necessary to find all relevant entries.
In addition, there are no universal standards to decide what belongs to mathematics and what doesn't, thus there are datasets which are at the border – and most likely some outside – of mathematics.
There is also a European portal for theses: DART-Europe E-theses Portal. But this doesn't provide any information on the subject area of the work nor any sort of classification. Therefore we consider a special mathematics collection an additional value to the mathematics community. While we cover some (large!) providers to DART, not all mathematical dissertations at Dart can be found here.
