What is MathDiss International?

MathDiss International a project sponsered by the German Research Foundation for the setting up of an international online full-text archive for mathematical theses in the LaTeX format.

Who coaches MathDiss International?

• the Institut of Mathematics of the Gerhard-Mercator-University Duisburg,
• the State Library of Lower Saxony and the University Library of Goettingen and
• the University Library of Duisburg.

After completion of the project time the service is coached by the SUB Goettingen on a long-term basis and transferred to the everyday work life.

How can I take part in MathDiss International?

The possibility is open to each graduate student of mathematics of publishing his/her thesis over MathDiss International in the Internet. An appropriate certificate for the test office can be issued. For the acceptance of a thesis on the server only small requirements must be fulfilled:

• It concerns a LaTeX manuscript.
• The used usepackages can be downloaded by the Dante server or were submitted with the thesis.
• A meta data set was provided with the MMMfT and likewise conveyed.

Beside the graduate students entire universities respectively \faculties or libraries can also  take part in the project, by announcing all mathematical theses to the SUB Goettingen also. Here it can get around to special agreements for the exchange formats of the data.

How does a thesis have to look, in order to be published at Math Diss International?

It exists the possibility to turn directly to MathDiss International and to submit the thesis personally in Goettingen. After examination of the conditions the work is transferred then to the database. Another possibility is the cooperation of the local university library with the SUB Goettingen . Appropriate information receives you at the thesis office of your university.

What offers MathDiss International to authors?

Graduate students have the possibility to publish their thesis on an international thesis server, which corresponds to specializedspecific requirements. The theses of MathDiss International are specified in international catalogs and prepared after special standards. As a specail attraction for the publication on our server is an agreement with the Zentralblatt MATH, which makes shure that each thesis, which is publicated at MathDiss international, is referenced in the Zentralblatt MATH and obtains thus a large public effect.

What offers MathDiss International to libraries?

In the context of the treatment of the project and the further support services by the SUB Goettingen procedures and proceedings for the safety device of a long-term archiving of electronic documents are developed. The SUB Goettingen will develop to the authority center for handling LaTeX documents and can thus contribute for all libraries.

What offers MathDiss International to specialized scientist respectively companies?

MathDiss international provides a central server  for mathematical theses, so that the search in the net crucially is simplified. Besides the service offers extended retrieval functionalities, which result from the special structure of a LaTeX document, e.g. the table of contents, the bibliography, etc..

Which software is recommended by MathDiss International empfohlen?

MathDiss International recommends the use of LaTeX. For this the distribution MikTex 2.1 can be downloaded by our sides (143 MT). This contains all Usepackages, which are needed under normal conditions. As an editor we make the program WinEDT available as Sharewareversion. This editor contains special LaTeX functionalities. In the Internet one can find further programs, which are public domain and permit also a comfortable handling.
